My Favorite Holiday Songs
We’re rounding third base and headed straight home for this holiday season so I wanted to take the time to give you some of my favorite music video picks, you know, because I’m all about spreading holiday cheer.
It’s funny, growing up a Buddhist Asian boy, I figured Christmas wasn’t meant to be for me. Like, all these holiday movies that would show Santa Claus saving the day … shiiiiet… Santa Claus only visited white people. Hey, I’m not saying that’s true, I’m just saying that’s what I figured about Christmas back when I was 6. Think about… how many Christmas movies have Asian-American children in it? Any?
And now onto my little list…
Boyz II Men feat. Brian McKnight – Let It Snow
One of my all-time favorites. I’ve always been a sucker for 90′s R&B and Boyz II Men + Brian McKnight are no exception. Listening to Boyz II Men so much had me believing I could be a member of an R&B quartet. I pictured I would be the bass of the group, the Michael McCary of the group.
More videos after the jump…
TLC – Sleigh Ride
It’s that New Jack Swing sound with jingle bells on top. It helps that I had a huge crush on Chilli. I swear if I ever run into her ….
Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You
A classic from who is now Mariah Carey Cannon. Does anyone know how these two hooked up? It straight boggles my mind. Maybe women in Hollywood are just predisposed to be cougars. You know, had it been anyone else but Nick Cannon, maybe it wouldn’t bug me. But let’s see, Nick Cannon has dated Christina Milian, pretends to DJ, has his own MTV show, and now supposedly has knocked up Mariah Carey.
“Man, fuck Nick Cannon”… well said, Dave.
Snoop Dogg feat. Tha Dogg Pound – Santa Claus Goes Straight To The Ghetto
The ridiculous-ness of this song makes it enjoyable. To hell with other Christmas raps (Christmas in Hollis excepted), G-Funk FTW!
Adam Sandler – Channukah Song
I’m all for holiday songs that aren’t Christmas songs. Remember, I’m indifferent to the religious connotations this season may have (the season of giving should be year-round). The “Channukah Song” is a very entertaining bit from Adam Sandler’s comedic prime.
Donny Hatthaway – This Christmas
My favorite Christmas song ever.
Happy Holidays!
